Manufacturing of the festival vehicles painted with Echizen lacquer started from their kiji(wood base) forming. After lacquer and kashoku (decoration) were applied, the festival vehicles were finally finished in September, 2012 after three years of hard work. The entire manufacturing of the festival vehicles painted with Echizen lacquer, from their kiji(wood base) forming and shitaji process where the woods are reinforced by applying pieces of clothes to the final process of maki-e(design drawing), chinkin(carving) and roiro(polishing) steps, was carried out by the Echizen lacquer artisans.

Echizen Lacquer Festival Vehicle Kaikan (festival vehicle display hall)

Echizen Lacquer Festival Vehicle Kaikan is located on the east side of Urushi-no-Sato Kaikan. The lights inside will be lit automatically if you open the doors. You can walk through the display room freely to see the festival vehicles. There are stairs in the back of the display room, and you can see the gorgeous gold leaf decoration of the roofs of the festival vehicles from the top.
